Cleaning, operation and Calibration Procedures of Weighing Balance (300 kgs capacity)

1.0 OBJECTIVE:

To lay down the procedure for cleaning, operation and calibration procedures of weighing balance bearing equipment no. [Specify Instrument No.].

2.0 SCOPE:

This Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) covers the cleaning, operation and calibration procedures of following weighing balance

3.0 RESPONSIBILITY:

3.1 Store Personnel to follow the SOP

3.2 Store In-charge to ensure compliance

4.0 PROCEDURE:

4.1 Calibration:

4.1.1 Switch ‘ON’ the weighing balance and wait till reading displays “0.00”.

4.1.2 Check the spirit level. If it is not leveled, bring it to center by adjusting the screws on the base of balance.

4.1.3 Do calibration in operating range prior to 

4.1.3.1 First use of the day,

4.1.3.2 Dispensing activity of each batch

4.1.3.3 Use after restarting due to power failure

4.1.4 And do calibration in full range prior to:

4.1.4.1 Use on first working day of month

4.1.4.2 After maintenance of the balance

4.1.5 Keep the standard weight/s centered on platform one by one, as per Annexure-I for calibration in operating and full ranges and record.

4.1.6 Repeat point no. 4.1.5 for other weights as specified in Annexure I.

4.1.7 If the displayed weight is found out of tolerance limit, affix “Out of Order“ label on weighing balance and inform maintenance dept. for rectification.

4.2 Operation:

4.2.1 Ensure balance is calibrated in operating range prior to use.

4.2.2 Check and ensure cleanliness of the platform.

4.2.3 Wait till the weighing balance displays “0.00” reading.

4.2.4 Place the item to be weighed on the balance platform.

4.2.5 Allow the display to give stationary reading and note it down.

4.2.6 Remove the item from the platform and ensure reading displays “0.00”.

4.2.7 Repeat the steps from 4.2.4 to 4.2.7 for other items/ materials to be weighed (if any) during the dispensing of materials.

4.2.8 Switch ‘OFF’ the weighing balance after completion of operation.

4.3 Cleaning:

4.3.1 Switch off the main power supply of weighing balance and remove electrical connection from the socket.

4.3.2 Lift and keep the weighing platform of the balance aside and clean the load cell with a clean dry muslin cloth, then with a clean dry muslin cloth damped with purified water and finally with a clean dry muslin cloth.

4.3.3 Check the spirit level. If it is not leveled, bring it to center by adjusting the screws on the base of balance.

4.3.4 Clean the weighing platform with a clean dry muslin cloth, then with a clean dry muslin cloth damped with purified water and finally with a clean dry muslin cloth.

4.3.5 Fix the weighing platform on the load cell properly.

4.3.6 Clean the display screen, knobs and electrical connections by moping with clean dry muslin cloth, then with clean dry muslin cloth damped with purified water and finally with clean dry muslin cloth.

4.3.7 Record the Cleaning activity as per Annexure I
