SOP for Calibration, Cleaning and Operation Procedures of Weighing Balance 

1.0 OBJECTIVE:

To lay down the procedure for cleaning, operation and calibration procedures of weighing balance bearing equipment ID no. [Specify instrument Id.].

2.0 SCOPE:

This Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) covers the cleaning, operation and calibration procedures of following weighing balance

3.0 RESPONSIBILITY:

3.1 Store Personnel to follow the SOP

3.2 Store In-charge to ensure compliance

4.0 PROCEDURE:

4.1 Calibration:

4.1.1 Remove the “Cleaned Label” from balance, and tear off.

4.1.2 Switch ‘ON’ RLAF and run for minimum 15 minutes to stabilise the airflow.

4.1.3 Check the spirit level. If it is not leveled, bring it to center by adjusting the screws on the base of balance.

4.1.4 Switch ‘ON’ the weighing balance and wait till reading displays “0.000”.

4.1.5 Do calibration in Daily Basis : ( If it is to be  used )

4.1.5.1 Dispensing activity of each batch.

4.1.5.2 Use after restarting due to power failure.

4.1.6 And do calibration in Operating range prior to :

4.1.6.1 Use on first working day of month.

4.1.6.2 After maintenance of the balance (if, any)

4.1.7 Keep the standard weights centered on platform one by one, as per Annexure-I for calibration in daily basis and operating ranges and record.

4.1.8 Repeat point no. 4.1.5 for other weights as specified in Annexure I.

4.1.9 If the displayed weight is found out of tolerance limit, affix “Out of Order“ label on weighing balance and inform maintenance dept. for rectification.

4.2 Operation: 

4.2.3 Ensure balance is calibrated prior to use.

4.2.4 Check and ensure cleanliness of the platform.

4.2.5 Open the shutter and place the double poly bag on the weighing pan.

4.2.6 Close the shutter and note down the stabilised reading for tare weight.

4.2.7 Calculate the gross weight to be taken for the material by adding the Net weight to and tare weight.

4.2.8 Open the shutter, add the material to be weighed & make it to gross weight.

4.2.9 Close the shutter and allow the display to give stationary reading.

4.2.10 Note down the displayed weight.

4.2.11 Open the shutter and remove the item from the platform.

4.2.12 Close the shutter and ensure the weight displays “0.000”

4.2.13 Repeat the steps from 4.2.3 to 4.2.10 for other items/ materials to be weighed (if any) during operation.

4.3 Cleaning:

4.3.3 Switch off the main power supply of weighing balance and remove electrical connection from the socket.

4.3.4 Lift the outer glass frame of the balance.

4.3.5 Clean the inner parts of the balance with a clean dry muslin cloth.

4.3.6 Clean outer and inner parts of glass frame which covers the balance with a clean dry muslin cloth, bring it back to its original position.

4.3.7 Check the spirit level. If it is not leveled, bring it to center by adjusting the screws on the base of balance.

4.3.8 Fill the cleaning details in “clean label” and affix the same on balance.

4.3.9 Record the Cleaning activity as per (Annexure I)
