SOP for Washing and Ironing of Linen

1. OBJECTIVE:  

To lay down Procedure for Washing and Ironing of Linen.

2. SCOPE: 

This Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) covers the detailed Operational procedure adopted for Washing & Ironing of Dirty Linen.. 

3. RESPONSIBILITY: 

3.1 Linen room personnel /Laundry personnel.
3.2 Head of the Department to ensure compliance.

4. PROCEDURE: 

4.1 PRE-CHECKS AND SETTINGS  
4.1.1 Open the poly bag received from linen room &Segregate the dirty linen in to caps, mask, boiler suits & aprons, mask, boiler suits & aprons 
4.1.2 Check the pockets of dirty linen and ensure that the pockets, if any, are totally empty. In-case any item/s are found, deposit the same with the H.R. head.
4.1.3 Count each linen separately.
4.1.4 Enter the category wise quantity in the ANNEXURE – I.
4.2 OPERATION PROCEDURE FOR ROTARY WASHING MACHINE 
4.2.1 Switch “ON” the main power supply of machine 
4.2.2 Release the emergency stop button if it is pressed and then press the power ON button.
4.2.3 Ensure that inlet water valve is opened. 
4.2.4 Open inside & outside basket door and load first lot of dirty linen.
4.2.5 Press`
4.2.6 the “Start” push button & allow the machine to run for 10 minutes in normal water.
4.2.7 After 10 minutes machine run automatically as per time set the machine will drain out the normal dirty water.
4.2.8 Use Detergent, on the second wash (250g) for 20 minutes.
4.2.9 Fill the fresh water again in the machine and allow the machine to run for 10 minutes.
4.2.10 After 10 minutes the machine will drain the water.
4.2.11 Repeat the same till the linen is free from detergent by visual inspection.
4.2.12 Use 25 ml of Blue for the final round and run for 5 minutes.
4.2.13 Unload the washed linen in container and repeat the above cycle until all dirty linen is washed.
4.2.14 Load the washed linen to the trolley and send to the Dryer.
4.2.15 Ensure the no linen in rotary washing machine.
4.2.16 Continue the operation, if any discrepancy occurred then inform to the   production Supervisor.
4.3 Operating procedure for Tumble Dryer.
4.3.1 Switch “ON” the main power supply of the machine then switch on the MCB.
4.3.2 Open the door of tumble dryer and load the washed linen for drying purpose (The load should not exceed more than 25 Kg) 
4.3.3 Switch on the machine and maintain Temperature between 45-60 Deg. C. 
4.3.4. Switch on the Heater by using Toggle Switch then Press “ON” Button for string the dryer. 
4.3.5. Allow the dryer to run for 10 to 30 minutes or run until the cloth gets dried.
4.3.6 Open the door and unload the linen into trolley and send to Ironing Room.
4.4 IRONING 
4.4.1 Individual linen is to be flatten on the ironing table.
4.4.2 Iron the linen and keep them into polybag.
4.4.3 Check the Quantity.
4.4.4 Transfer the poly bag to the linen room.
4.5 SHUTDOWN PROCEDURE
4.5.1 Ensure the no linen in machine.
4.5.2 Whenever a sudden emergency situation arises during operation press the  
emergency stop button.
4.5.3 Immediately switch OFF the MAIN SWITCH.
4.5.4 Release the pressed emergency stop button after rectifying the cause for 
emergency shut down.
4.5.5 Clean the outside body of the machine dry and clean lint free cloth.
